Derek joined Seim Johnson in 2021 and currently serves as Managing Director, Executive Search. In this capacity, he is responsible for providing national executive search, board member search, executive interim placement, CEO performance evaluation, executive compensation, board governance, and organizational development services to clients.   Previously a Managing Partner with Quick Leonard Kieffer, Derek has an extensive background as an executive search consultant.

Derek brings 15 years of healthcare executive search and consulting experience to his role.  He has successfully led executive level searches for both public and private health systems, children’s hospitals, academic medical centers, physician groups, critical access hospitals, nonprofit healthcare service organizations, and healthcare consulting firms.  He has successfully executed 196 executive level searches, with an average time to fill of 89 days, and 92% of his placements remain employed for at least three years.  93% of his clients have rated his work superior to other firms.

Derek has developed a scientific based seven phase candidate identification & vetting process, which consistently produces top talent and gives the search committee data and analytical tools to be assured they are hiring the best candidate.

Derek is a member of the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). He serves as the President of the Mission Park Homeowners Association, and proudly served in the Nebraska Air National Guard.

Derek holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Doane University, where he competed in intercollegiate track and cross country.  Derek and his wife reside in Omaha, Nebraska and are the proud parents of two children, Brynn and Evan.
